Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau

Neurotoxins are wrinkle relaxers made of the Botulinum toxin. Not only are they used to treat dynamic wrinkles but employing advanced techniques, Dr. Farhang is able to lift the eyebrow, slim a full face, lift the corners of the mouth, lift the tip of the nose and create a fuller lip without using filler. Using a microdroplet technique and using neurotoxins as mesotherapy, Dr. Farhang can also use neurotoxins to shrink pores. These advanced techniques performed only by an expert injector.

Dynamic wrinkles develop as a result of muscle contractions such as frowning and squinting. These wrinkles are often misinterpreted as anger, anxiety, fear and fatigue. Prominent forehead creases, brow furrows, glabellar lines (the 11’s) and crow’s feet can be effectively treated with wrinkle relaxers. By paralyzing the muscles that cause these dynamic wrinkles, the effect is a more aesthetic and youthful facial appearance.

Neurotoxins have multiple cosmetic applications, but it is important to note that treatments will not interfere with nonverbal facial expressions that communicate your emotional state. Rather, neurotoxins treat wrinkles and skin laxity; and in the hands of an expert they can deliver naturally beautiful facial rejuvenation without surgery.

What are Neurotoxins?

Botulinum toxin formulations approved in the US include Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Juveau. They work to temporarily block muscle contractions which reduces dynamic wrinkles and smooths the surface of the skin. The mechanism of action or how they work is the same, and effects last equally as long regardless of the formulation. Botox is the most frequently performed cosmetic procedure in the US.

How does botulinum toxin work?

The botulinum toxin is a neuromodulator which means when injected in small amounts, into specific facial muscles that create dynamic wrinkles, the toxin relaxes contractions and smooths the overlying skin which reduces dynamic wrinkles. The botulinum toxin is used to treat frown lines, crow’s feet and more.

Neurotoxins are very popular. Over 90% of consumers report positive outcomes. Repeated over time botulinum toxin is well tolerated and safe with predictable results and few side effects. Studies report that Botox injected into forehead muscles can inhibit frowning which mitigates the symptom of anger and depression!

What is “baby botox”?

People can start as early as their late 20’s as a preventative treatment to developing wrinkles and to deliver added benefits using advanced techniques. Dr. Farhang usually delivers what is called “baby botox” for those who are just starting or are seeking to “pre-juvenate”.

How long does it take to see results?

Botox and Dysport each contain protective proteins and take 7- 10 day after injection to see effects. Xeomin is a different formulation without these proteins and takes 5-6 days to see effects. Dr. Farhang will decide which product is best choice for you. The most common side effects are slight redness at the injection sites and mild bruising which resolve within hours.

How long do results last?

All produce effects that last 2-3 months before gradually wearing off. However, effects can last as long as 4-5 months depending on the area treated, the dose and formulation. The duration of effect is also individualized based on how quickly the patient metabolizes the drug.

How frequently should I get botox?

Studies and experience report that keeping up with injections before botox wears off can reduce the dose needed to achieve the same results. Importantly, botox maintenance can train the affected to muscles to contract less frequently which reduces the cumulative impact of facial expressions in causing dynamic wrinkles.

Men typically require higher doses to reduce forehead and glabellar lines than women. Both sexes report reduced frowning and enhanced feelings of attractiveness, confidence and satisfaction.
